Would you like to inspire others to join the State Department? The Volunteer Recruiter Corps serves to harness the talent and experience of personnel across the State Department to augment the Bureau of Global Talent Management’s recruitment efforts.

We welcome participation from a wide range of Foreign Service and Civil Service colleagues, particularly at the entry- and mid-levels to support the Department’s recruitment goals. We will call on volunteers to speak firsthand about their work experiences and share their personal stories with prospective recruits. Your current location is not a barrier to participation.

Your responses in this questionnaire will help us identify you for participation in suitable opportunities, such as joining a recruiter for a career fair, serving as an info session panelist, participating in a recruitment social media campaign, or corresponding with a prospective candidate. Please note that we will call on volunteers on an as needed basis; due to the high level of interest, it is possible that not all volunteers will be contacted. You will still have access to recruitment news and resources and will learn ways you can recruit within your networks.

You will have a chance to accept or decline offers to participate in specific activities based on your availability and your supervisor's approval. In addition, we will ask your permission before using your bio for an event announcement or for a social media feature. It will be accessible to GTM/TAC/REC staff and will be shared with Bureau recruiters upon request.

Short Bio *
Your bio helps our recruiters identify the best volunteer for an activity. Additionally, many event organizers ask for the bios of speakers for promotional purposes. Please follow the format used in the below Biographic Example, which is designed for an outside audience.

Ian Morales (Not an actual employee)

Ian Morales joined the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Service Specialist in 2011. He is currently the Information Management Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Highland, Genovia, where he is responsible for maintaining the diplomatic post’s full IT infrastructure. Ian previously served as an Information Management Specialist in Mexico, Afghanistan, Washington D.C., and Indonesia.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ian was a systems administrator and IT specialist for VAE Inc. in the D.C. area. Ian also taught English as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador for two years. Ian received his Associate’s of Applied Science in Computer Science from Utah Valley University and his Bachelor's of Science in International Relations from Utah State University. Ian is also a certified pilot and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
